1. How long does it take for photobiomodulation to work?

It is not an immediate miracle transformation that will occur overnight, but it will provide you with ongoing improvements that you will begin to see in anywhere from 24 hours to 2 months, depending on the condition, its severity, and how regularly the light is used.

2. What is the difference between red and near infrared light therapy?

Red and near infrared light therapy are exactly the same except for two differences: Red light is visible and near infrared light is invisible. And near infrared light penetrates deeper into the body than red light.

3. How do I use the device?

A more comprehensive user guide is included with the product, including specific condition suggestions and how to position the light.

But basic treatment is this:

  • Distance: Apply from 0 – 2 meters

  • Session Time: Continue for 2 – 15 minutes, depending on distance

  • Frequency: Do this 2 times to 14 times a week

4. How often do I need to use the device?

This depends on the condition you are treating and the device you are using. For most conditions, daily use is recommended.

5. Do I need to continue to use the light as much when I start seeing results?

Yes. Just because you're seeing results, it doesn't mean that your cells are finished doing their jobs. It's just that the results of their efforts are starting to become something you can feel. Keep up the treatments until you reach your goal level of results.

6. Should I use eye protection?

Eye protection is not required or necessary. However, we don’t recommend looking directly at the LEDs because it can sometimes be uncomfortable. With that said, your eyes typically become accustomed to the light and it is then OK to open your eyes, as long as you aren’t feeling discomfort.

7. Why aren’t the infrared LEDs working? I can’t see them.

Near infrared (NIR) light is actually not visible to the naked human eye. It is outside of the visual spectrum, and as a result, it cannot be seen. However, there is a very slight glow that comes from the LEDs, especially in dark conditions. So if you are concerned the NIR LEDs are really not working, you can test them in a very dark pitch black room.

8. Can children use the device?

Yes, children can use the device under adult supervision. Never use the device on infants, though. If a child is older than 12 years old, they may follow the previously referenced treatment times. If a child is younger than 12 years old, they should opt for half the dose that would be recommended for adults.

9. When can I expect results?

Results vary depending on goals and treatment consistency. That being said, many people will experience benefits relatively quickly. Other benefits may take 8-12 weeks of consistent usage to appear. Using your device every day or every other day will maximize the rate of response and healing. It is very important to be consistent with red light therapy.

10. Does red light therapy interfere with any medications?

Red and near infrared light therapy has been proven in thousands of clinical studies and peer reviewed clinical trials to be not only safe but also effective. 12. What is the different between Optimal 1000 and an infrared sauna?

Saunas rely on heat to produce biological effects, whereas Optimal 1000 produces almost no heat at all. Infrared saunas use a type of infrared heat lamp, which is a totally different (and less clinically effective) than the Optimal 1000. 

Instead of heating you up, Optimal 1000 delivers clinically-proven wavelengths of natural light directly to your cells. It emits the wavelengths of 660nm and 850nm. Nearly all published clinical data shows that these specific wavelengths are the most beneficial for humans. This is the clinical consensus, and those are the precise wavelengths we use. They have some amazing effects on the mitochondria in our cells, helping them to produce more energy for your body and brain.

Optimal 1000 is also an LED-based device. Medical scientists use LEDs or lasers when they conduct photomedicine research for a reason. You won't ever find them using infrared heat lamps.

That's because the wavelength spectrum delivered from the infrared heat bulbs inside an infrared sauna is pretty broad. Less than 1% of the energy from heat lamps is delivered between 600-660 nm, and only about 2% is delivered within the 810-880 nm range. In other words, 97% of wavelengths from a heat lamp fall outside of the wavelength range known to produce the greatest health benefits.

Light power, or irradiance, also drops off a great deal as you move further away from the light. Heat lamps are a double-edged sword: too close and you can burn yourself. Too far, and you don’t get any real power.
